Biggest Wedding Day Regrets

Updated: Aug 11, 2020

So having been doing this a good few years now, I always find it interesting to hear of couples regrets after their wedding day. I mean I honestly try to create a day where my couples have no regrets, but today I have culminated a list of 8 different things that I hear people have regretted doing or not doing on their wedding day.

I can only advice my couples, at that end of the day... you do you. It's your wedding day and you need to make decisions that reflect you as a couple. But here are a list of those 8 regrets that I try to make my couples aware of before their wedding.

Biggest Regrets:

1. Not eating enough

You MUST remember to eat on your wedding day! That goes for breakfast when you're getting ready, ensuring you have canapés and eating your main meal.

It is such a long day, filled with adrenalin and excitement. You need to fuel yourself and line your stomach. The last thing you want is getting the shakes because you have been so busy, you've forgotten to eat!

2. Not saying Hi to everyone

You don't want to get to the next day and realise you didn't speak to anti Julie! Try and fit in a little chat with all your guests throughout the day. An ideal way of doing this is either ra receiving line or the wedding breakfast walk around, both of which I have talked about before. Check them out Here and Here.

3. Not getting to dance

Moving on from the last point. If you are chatting to all yours guests in the evening, you may find that you don't get to get on the dance floor. If that is something that is important to you, then make sure you have a plan in place so you can dance the night away. whether that is chatting to guests at the pearlier parts of the day. Or having someone that gets you on the dance floor.

4. Not taking 5 just as a couple to soak it all up

I've mentioned this several times before, butits one of my biggest tips to couples. Make sure you take 5, just the two fo you. The drywall be the fastest of your lives and you want to make sure the two of you get a moment to soak it all in and remember the commitment you have just made together.

5. Not having a professional hair and makeup artists

Hiring a professional hair and makeup up artists can make you feel like a million pounds. Having someone who is a pro work their magic on you on your wedding day is special. You can sit bac, relax and enjoy being pampered. Having someone with professional products, that will work well with cabers, last all day long and hold everything where it should is key. You don't want to look back at your photos and feel sad about looking washed out or that your makeup rubbed off or your hair fell out.

6. Not choosing a professional photographer

Tying in with the last point....... you also don't want to look back at your images and feel sad that they just weren't up to scratch. whatever you do choose a professional and not a friend. this is something for me I think is a non negotiable. I always try to stay impartial and just advice. But for me, this one really is important. If you want someone to capture the magic of your day, those moments you might not have seen and capture the day ow your want to remember it, then choose the right person for the job. Having a guests that also takes pictures is not the one! They will not be as invested as they are also a guest. You want to look back at your pictures and for them to bring everything back.

Best Decisions:

7. Choosing a videographer

This is so often a last minute decision for couples. They will add it to their budget in a column of "if there's money left", or "if I persuade my other half". But so so often I have comes that do make the decision last minute to hire a videographer. And EVERYTIME they come back and say it was one of the best decisions they made! A videographer will capture the feeling of the day, as well as the memories. By having the movement, they can get a feel for the emotions, the laughter, then fun and the vibe. Having music in the background really brings the emotions to life when you watch it back and it's something you will treasure for ever!

8. Choosing a wedding planner / coordinator

Finally and wedding coordinator is so often something couples are so pleased they decided to opt for in the end. When you are planning someones wedding, you are there from the start and therefore usually an early decision for the couple. When you are coordinating a wedding, it can often be left last minute as you decide you want extra help on the day. I have never had a coupe regret that decision. So often they say "we weren't going to have a coordinator because of the extra cost and that there is a venue manager, but my gosh I'm so glad we did!". Having someone to manage the day fully, taking care of all the details, looking after the couple and ensuring the full picture is how you planned it, is something that is never a bad decision.
